Step 1 - I prepare the door to strip

I dismantled the door, I put it on trestles, if possible in the open air and on ground that fears nothing. I then disassembles handles and locks.

Step 2 - I use an electric sander

The stripping of a door will take me a lot of energy. So I choose to limit the grinding step using an electric sander. I put a canvas sanding with coarse for the first layer.

Step 3 - I start sanding

I operate the sander and I laying flat on the door by gently rotating movements and pressing a bit. This makes a lot of dust, so it is best to wear a mask and work outdoors.

Step 4 - I honed moldings

If my door this moldings, which is often the case with old doors, the sander can not reach the asperities. In this case, I use a chisel, which I use as a scraper. I'll take care of dust using a brush, to check the work.

Step 7 - I rinse the door

The most practical is to rinse the door with a pressure washer. I can also do this with the scrubbing brush or a large sponge. It is rare that such holder has received one coat of paint. I repeat all the previous steps several times, often once a layer.

Step 8 - I am looking for the best solution for moldings

Regarding the moldings, they often received several coats of paint. We must find the right tool that will help you in pickling. Here, I took in turn the chisel, sandpaper and a bronze brush.

Step 9 - I deal finishes

After final passage of the high-pressure cleaner and sanding with fine paper, my door is ready. Here, the goal is to repaint it, so I do not try to remove all the paint, but I have removed the layers of paint and rough. For waxing, it would have again a time or two such operations. It is up to you whether the quality of the door is worth leaving bare wood or if it makes more sense to repaint after pickling.
