The procedure for successful concrete effect

Concrete always has the odds in our homes! Far from being regarded as a cold material, it dresses with style and modernity all our rooms, the bathroom to the kitchen, through the dining room. To adopt it on a wall like furniture, opt for the easiest and most economical solution with a concrete coating effect. We went in Lilibricole to master step by step implementation and get perfected.

Step 1 - I choose the right hardware

I am inquiring property at the time of purchase: depending on the brand, some products require a primer grip. Here it is a concrete coating that can be applied directly to your support (whatever it is) and also comes with two spatulas and a roll. I complete a stick, a cloth, a little water, a scraper, a pen and a sheet of paper. I do not forget gloves and appropriate clothing to avoid getting dirty. And a sheet to protect the floor!

Step 2 - I make a sketch of my application

No rush, especially if the area to be covered is quite substantial! The technique ? Divide the wall into pieces to progress through area. So I did not hesitate to make a sketch to help me "cut" my wall because it does not then I'll have to interrupt me in my surgery or I will revert to a previously treated area. Tip: always expect a little more material than necessary.

Step 3 - I prepare the support

Whether it is a wall or furniture, my support must be smooth, clean, no bumps. If it does not, so I use a scraper to level up my surface and remove any loose parts.

Step 4 - I prepare my product

Now that my support is sound up to the product! Using a stick, I mix the coating to obtain a smooth and homogeneous paste, easy to apply.

Step 5 - I apply my product with the roll

I begin by roughly spread my coat with the roller. I started up and down vertically and then horizontally. If there is a corner on my surface, I start with this place to avoid holes.

Step 6 - I smooth with the first spatula

My ready product, it's time to apply myself! With a smooth spatula, I spread the coating gently. The technique: when I finished raking a first area, I go to the second encroaching slightly on the previous to the junction.

Step 7 - I often clean my spatula

Using a cloth or sponge, I regularly cleaned with water my spatula. This prevents the formation of lumps and again, my slightly moistened spatula allows the coating to be better implemented. If ever a lump still managed to creep in, I do not panic! I carefully removed my fingers and I immediately returns to this area with the spatula.

Step 8 - I use the second spatula

Using a notched trowel, I apply a second layer, thinner than the first but this time by pressing firmly. The idea is to get the rail effects specific to concrete. I do not insist too however that the result is natural.

Step 9 - I clean my tools

My fully applied concrete coating, I have only to clean my tools! The scraper is then of great help. The drying time varies from a half day to a day depending on the brand. So a little patient before reinvesting my restyled interior.
