With gold leaf: long and delicate, but very spectacular!

Whether above the doors on the old frames or piers, many moldings and rosettes were once made of plaster. Relatively fragile, subject, especially for executives, to frequent shocks, these decorations spoil quickly. Do not panic in front of one of these gilded frames in the damaged trim: it is relatively easy to repair!

The step: Make an impression

dust traps, various moldings and decorations must be primarily cleaned by soft brush.

To achieve a perfect imprint of the molding, choose the clay industrial-type Plastiline in the composition of which come additives that give it its flexibility.

Knead the dough in the palm of your hand for heat and locate in a healthy part of your room a pattern identical to the one you need to repair.

Brush, go Vaseline or, failing that, the cooking oil on the trim you want to make the impression. This prevents the dough to "stick" to support and deteriorate the finest ornaments.

Place the dough on greased part and flatten her to marry all forms and details of the mold.

Carefully remove the paste, place it on a flat surface and with two other dumplings, close the ends of your fingerprint. In this way, at the time of casting, plaster mold can not escape through the sides.

Prepare plaster mold and pour it into the mold. For it is deposited in all the gaps, even small ones, do not forget the "vibrate", that is to say, to give the a screwdriver flicking on the wall of mold.

Let it set overnight before unmolding.

Adjust your demoulded according to the chipped portion of your frame. For it fits perfectly, cut it with a saw, then file it slightly to sandpaper.

Brush the room to get rid of any traces of dust, then glue the two surfaces with wallpaper glue that, once dry, will not leave a trace. For heavy and large moldings, choose a neoprene glue and carefully avoid drips.

Make the connections between the parts with a fluid slurry, that is to say some plaster clay, diluted with 50% water. Pass this mixture with a brush and let dry.

To restore the original color, mix rubbing alcohol with a tenth of its volume varnish white pad. On this basis, add smooth the necessary colors to get the right shade. For gilded frames, use a liquid or paste gilding, ready. Purists will purchase gold leaf and varnish suitable for installation with a brush to brown ... Long and delicate, but very spectacular!
